What is currently the Gardens Hotel on the corner of Angela and Simonton streets used to be the home of Peggy Mills, who created a wondrous botanical garden filled with exotic plantings and sculpture. The pathways and benches meander through the grounds of the hotel and offer an oasis behind a yellow stucco wall. You can see the gardens during Sunday afternoon jazz events and when you stop in to the Wine Gallery where you can serve yourself from among a robust selection of wines. Due to private events that are held at the Hotel, call ahead to be sure the gardens are open for public enjoyment.
