Higgs Beach. Atlantic Avenue at White Street
In 1860, three ships carrying Africans meant to be sold into slavery, were captured and sent to Key West. Many died at sea and another 294 died after they reached the island. This site, at the actual spot where those bodies were buried, is a memorial to all who were on that journey.
